Open Day: “Cybersecurity & Privacy-Preserving Technologies for Healthcare”
Erasmus MC, 9 October 2025
📍 Erasmus MC Education Center (2nd floor) | 📅 9 October 2025, 08:45
Securing Tomorrow’s Healthcare, Today.
On 9 October 2025, Erasmus MC will host the Cybersecurity Open Day on Privacy-Preserving Technologies for Healthcare, an interactive event organized by the Horizon Europe projects SEPTON and SECURED. The program features keynotes, live demonstrations, posters, and a panel discussion, providing a comprehensive view of how cybersecurity and privacy-preserving technologies are reshaping healthcare.
Healthcare systems worldwide are becoming increasingly connected, integrating electronic health records, imaging platforms, bedside monitoring, and implantable/wearable devices. While these digital transformations improve patient outcomes, they also create significant vulnerabilities: cyberattacks on hospital IT, data privacy breaches, and the challenge of complying with stricter regulations such as GDPR, MDR, and NIS2. The Open Day will highlight practical, deployable solutions to meet these challenges head-on.
Program Highlights
- Cybersecurity Keynote: Prof. Jan van den Berg (TU Delft & Leiden University) on emerging threats in healthcare infrastructures.
- Privacy Keynote: Dr. Paolo Palmieri (University College Cork, Ireland) on anonymization, synthetic data, and privacy in the AI era.
- SEPTON Demonstrations: Security tools for networked medical devices, implantables, and monitoring dashboards.
- SECURED Demonstrations: Anonymization pipelines, synthetic data engines, and federated analysis frameworks for secure collaboration.
- Poster Session: Innovative research on lightweight encryption, privacy-preserving AI, and post-quantum readiness.
- Panel Discussion: “Cybersecurity and upcoming regulation in Healthcare – How does it affect clinical practice?”
More specifically, SECURED will present live demonstrations from our four use cases:
- Real-Time Tumor Classification (Erasmus MC): combining ultrasound and brain imaging to reveal new neurological insights.
- Telemonitoring for Children (Paediatric Hospital Niño Jesús, Madrid): using AI to predict risks in pediatric oncology patients and expand safe telemedicine.
- Synthetic Data for Education (Semmelweis University, Budapest): generating GDPR-compliant datasets to train doctors and power medical AI.
- Federated Genomic Research (Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, Barcelona): allowing secure analysis of genetic data across institutions without direct data sharing.
The event will provide participants with insights into protecting sensitive patient data, securing medical devices, and ensuring compliance with future regulations. It also demonstrates how these advances enable the safe development of new medical services, research collaborations, and MedTech innovations.
